The US Supreme Court recently rejected the argument of several Amazon workers that they were being cheated out of overtime pay because they were forced to wait in line at the end of their shift to go through security screening required by their employer. The Court ruled that Amazon doesn’t have to pay these workers for this time even though they required the workers to wait. The US Supreme Court came up with this confusing reason: Only “principal activities” that are “integral and indispensable” are entitled to wages. Clearly the Court has a bias for employers. I don’t know how a mandatory security check isn’t indispensable. The employees couldn’t leave without it. We’ll keep watching for more developments on this issue.
